Sew Grateful Week - A Reflection

The lovely Debi, from My Happy Sewing Place, created a plan for a wonderful week where we, in the sewing community, share our gratitude for the others out there who make our hobby that much nicer! What a fantastic idea!

I just couldn't let this week slip by without showing a bit of gratitude myself!

I'm so grateful to have found a hobby where I can create something useful and lovely with my own hands.  One that allows me to explore a tradition through time.  A hobby that allows me not to settle for what other's say I should purchase and where the possibilities are endless.

I'm also very grateful to my darling fiance, Brandon, as the idea for me to take up sewing as a hobby was actually his.  We had just moved several states away from home, I didn't know anyone, and I needed a new hobby.  Browsing a rack of dresses one day, I held one up and his response took me by surprise: "You could easily make that."  The thought had never crossed my mind.  I'd never really sewn anything - just a very very small pillow in Home Ec - but, he always has such confidence in me.

My first project didn't go very well but, he continued to encourage me.  He buys every tool, book, fabric, and notion I need and provides the voice of reason whenever I need it.  Not to mention the time he spends helping me tweak patterns and fit...  Now, each week, he's even outside braving the elements, whatever they may be, just to get photos for the new Sew Weekly challenges.

He knows that sewing makes me happy and that I want to increase the quality and quantity of what I make; and he understands that each detail is important to me so, he's always willing to help.  Isn't he just great!?

But, of course, as encouraging and helpful as he is, I know I wouldn't have come half as far without all of YOU!  I never would have guessed that sewing could have introduced me to some many wonderful people - not locally but, all of the world!  Each of you inspires and encourages me to continue and you're all so helpful and welcoming!  I feel like I have this wide group of friends who I can always turn to for a kind word or instruction when I'm stuck.  You're all absolutely lovely!  I'm SEW grateful for each and every one of you!

To continue sharing the gratitude and love, be sure to check out all of the Sew Grateful Week posts, tutorials, and giveaways!  I've already found some great new blogs to read and I'm looking forward to finding more!

Note:  I don't yet have any new tutorials to share but, you can check out the ones I've posted previously here!

Have a great week everyone! x
